Summer 2010 Message from the Chief Executive Officer
More is better!
After eating something that my father thought was especially delicious, he would
regularly pose the same question to me and my siblings: “Do you all know what that
tasted like?” In unison, we would then all answer with the expected and all too
familiar response: “MORE!”
My father has passed on but his words and ideas still ring true with me today. When
something is very good it is natural that we will want more. And, so it is with
The Healing Place Model. This efficient model of providing homeless men and women
with effective rehabilitative services to bring them back from the ravages of alcoholism
and drug addiction has a long and proven track record of success. With homelessness
on the rise across the U.S., it is a logical conclusion that something so successful
should be shared with other communities across the country. With this goal in mind,
The Healing Place of Wake County has partnered with the original Healing Place model
in Louisville, Kentucky. By combining forces we will be able to maximize our resources
and realize this dream more efficiently and effectively than we could separately.
The planning process is now in full motion and major cities that have expressed
interest include Chicago and New York City among others. Nearby communities that
are already working with us include, Norfolk, Virginia, Lynchburg, Virginia, and
Fayetteville, NC. The interest is widening and the excitement is growing!
Watch for future developments and join us in celebrating the accomplishments of
our local community in significantly reducing homelessness. More is better!
Dennis Parnell
